History Repeats Itself – Fo! Fo! Fo! – (DYKS Week 4 picks)

This week we have a tandem working together as our guest prognosticator for week 4 of NFL season. The dynamic duo of Jim Cardin and Wayne Turner, Manufacturing Technology instructors at Windham Tech take a crack at beating the “Do You Know Sports” guys. Wayne and Jim also have a fictional Manufacturing Company in Seattle that was a target of super terrorist Ali “the Cat” Armeni. They only hope their picks survive better than Cardin and Turner Manufacturing in Fourth and Dead. Wayne and Jim are bit of an odd couple as Jim is a Giants fan and Wayne is a Cowboys fan. Jim had a rough week following the Giants opening week loss to the Cowboys, I think he actually called out sick on Monday and Tuesday following that game. One thing that Cowboy fans and Giants fans have in common is multiple Super Bowl wins and multiple heart break losses. The Giants have Flipper Anderson, Joe Pisarcik, the blown 24 point lead to the 49ers in the playoff’s and the blown 9 point lead to the Vikings with 4 minutes left in the playoff’s. The Cowboys have pretty much every week 17 game in the Tony Romo era. The “Odd Couple” try to help the guests bounce back after Keith Rice flopped with a 1-3 record last week.
A bunch of teams saved their seasons last week with victories and a few had their hopes and dreams destroyed with a loss, an injury or both. The Bears are one of those teams that had both with the loss to the Seahawks. They lost their starting quarterback, the offense was shut out, their punter was injured because he had to punt on every possession (apparently an overuse injury). This would be the time when a baseball team would start making trades but this is the NFL that doesn’t happen. Yes it does! The best part is Bears management isn’t even hiding the fact the season is over and they are making trades and it looks like they will trade anyone. They traded Jared Allen and 11 plus million to the Panthers for a 6th round pick. They traded Jonathan Bostic their leading tackler just a couple seasons ago to the Patriots for a 6th round pick. The last time John Fox and Jimmy Clausen teamed up the Panthers got the number one pick in the next years draft, apparently the Bears are shooting for history to repeat itself.

This is great news for the Raiders (2-1) that go to the windy city trying to stay close to the Broncos (3-0). The Raiders might actually be in a tie for first place at the quarter pole of the season by the end of the day Sunday if the Vikings can beat the Broncos in Denver.

The Panthers make a move to upgrade the defense getting Jared Allen. What, why would they do that? They have a top notch defense already, it’s their offense that stinks. They should of tried to pry Ashlon Jeffrey from the Bears and give Cam Newton a weapon on offense. The Panthers are not a sure thing at the Buccaneers but better win to keep pace with Falcons.

The Falcons are flying and you better believe that Victor Cruz has been putting Julio Jones in his line up every week for fantasy football. The Falcons are home against the Texans and if they can hold off the pass rush and play like they have the previous 3 weeks they will be 4-0.

The first game Sunday this week is at 9:30 in the morning for those in the Eastern time zone with the Jets and Dolphins playing in London. The Jets consulted with a sleep therapist to deal with a time zone change. The excuses are already built in for their loss to the struggling Dolphins. I really get a kick out of the paralysis by over-analysis some of these teams do that always backfires. Earlier in the season the Ravens stayed on the west coast after their week 1 loss to the Broncos and get beat at the Raiders in week 2. You think your team might have been better off sleeping in the comfort of their own homes for most of the week. Do you think Bill Belichek would of done either of these things?

The Fighting Belichek’s and the Titans are the first teams with bye’s this season. Seems a bit early this year.

The Giants saved their season last week and play their only game in New York this season versus the Bills. This game scares me because of the Bills pass rush, Eli Manning with the deer in head light eyes versus a strong pass rush and Eli hasn’t thrown a pick all year. Aghhhh have the moons and stars aligned, are we going to see one of those five pick games by Eli! Every four years the G-Men play the Patriots so they need to win this game, get to .500 and get on a roll with their upcoming schedule. They can make the Moses Malone (RIP) “Fo! Fo! Fo!” with the Patriots if they can get on that roll. The Giants are thin at wide receiver so they brought in old friends Hakeem Nicks and Wes Welker in for a tryout. I consider Welker an old friend thanks to his huge drop in the 2011 Super Bowl. 2007, 2011, 2015 Fo! Fo! Fo!

Two teams I am rooting are the Skins and the Saints to help the Giants. I don’t like either of the chances of winning straight up or with the points.

Kansas City with a loss on Monday night to the Packers has to travel to the Bengals. The Bengals have looked like world beaters so far this season but we have seen this before from the Bungles. The Bengals looked great last year and the Patriots  looked like dog food, the Bengals allegedly showed up for a prime time game to put the nail in the coffin of the Patsies but were destroyed. I am just trying to figure out if the Bungles get killed this week against the Chiefs or do they wait for the Seahawks next week.

The Colts are super frustrating. They survived the Titans  and saved their season. They however screwed me over cruelly playing with my gambaling heart by looking like they will not cover the 3.5 point spread, storm back to cover the spread and then finally blowing the cover at the end. They will win their division despite being terrible and over hyped prior to the season.

The Joker and myself recorded our NFL Week 4 picks to the amusement of all but I was unable to load it onto the website. Hopefully I will be able to figure out how to turn my recording into a file that can be uploaded onto wordpress prior to the games on Sunday. I think most would enjoy our conversation about the Jets preference in toilet paper, the Joker’s new found love of the Raiders and how we want the Cowboys to win.

Good Luck with Week 4 picks and remember history tends to repeat itself. “Fo, fo, fo!”
