Ho! Ho! Noooooo! Giants do it again. – League of DYKS Week 14 NFL Picks

Our guest this week in the “Do You Know Sports” picks league (DYKS pronounced DICKS) is Ethan “E$” Wilcox my Texas Hold Em’ cousin that analytically destroys the competition. Ethan’s favorite football team the Oakland Raiders and baseball team the New York Yankees happen to be the rival of his father EC Bronco a Broncos and Orioles fan. The rivalry will continue this week between those two and I am certain that a side bet of some kind will be made on who performs better this week with their picks. The guest could use another good week like Johnny Bolduc last week with a 3-2 record as he placed him self in the fourth and final playoff spot for the week 17 guest playoff.

Five Games. Unbelievable. How is it possible that a team can blow 5 leads late in the fourth quarter in one season? There are many reasons and it’s not just the coach but it looks like it will cost Tom Coughlin his job unless the Giants make a late run down the stretch to qualify for the playoff’s.

Reason 1- The Giants lack a running game. Tom Coughlin has a running back by committee because they don’t have a go to back to hand the ball off to twenty times a game. They do have a playmaker out of the backfield in Shane Vereen but other than the 49ers game he has not been utilized.

Reason 2 – The injuries to the offensive line. The Giants had as many as four starters on the offensive line out with injuries. They finally get Richburg and Pugh back last week and Erik Flowers goes down with an ankle sprain. The lack of continuity has hurt the running game and now is starting to show it’s effects in the pass protection.

Reason 3 – The pass rush. The Giants lack of pressure on the quarterback has been a big culprit in many of these comeback victories for the wrong side. A tough task to hold a lead when the other quarterback can sit back like it’s seven on seven drills.

Reason 4 – Time management of the coaching staff. The coaches are afraid to trust the defense to hold a lead so they constantly go for the kill as my buddy “NY Fan” explained at lunch following the latest collapse. This leads to the ridiculous amount of pass plays when they are trying to run out the clock and the odd going for the kill 4th down calls when they could kick field goals.

The good news for the Giants is they are in the NFC LEast and tied for first place. The Giants have four games left to fix what ails the with the running game, get healthy on the offensive line and hope the return of JPP improves the all around play on the defensive line. Those first three reason don’t get turned around and this offseason the last reason will get fixed with the hiring of a new head coach.

Now for the picks.

Cousin James “Greenwell 39” has made it 11 straight weeks in first place.
