Christmas Hero’s vs. Villain’s Bracket Madness Review

The second Bracket Madness Tournament involving Christmas, had Hero’s and Villain’s from various Christmas Movies representing four brackets. There were two Hero Brackets, Santa’s Family and Family Hero’s Bracket and Misfit Hero’s Bracket, with all the top Christmas Hero’s. The Villain’s were represented in the Rich Big Company Bracket and the Kids and Killers Brackets. The field of 64 began on November 16th with two first round games each day. The second round also had two match ups each day from December 2nd through December 9th. The Sweet 16 began on December 10th with one match up each day, the Elite 8 was from December 18th until December 21st. The Final Four had the two Hero’s and two Villain’s facing off and the Championship had the top Villain and Hero battling on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

First Round

The first round had seven upsets. The #11 seed “the Kid” and Sue from Bad Santa defeated #6 seed Kris Kringle  from Miracle on 34th Street in the Santa’s Family and Family Hero’s Bracket. The Rich Big Company Villain’s bracket had two upsets; #14 seed Scrooge McDuck from Mickey’s Christmas Carol beat #3 seed Jim Carey’s version of Scrooge and Myron Larabee the #10 seed from Jingle All the Way defeated Clyde the #7 seed from Fred Claus. The Kids and Killers bracket had two upsets #12 seed Scott Farkus knocked off the #5 Grinch (cartoon version) the #10 seed Jack Skellington of Nightmare Before Christmas defeated #7 Joshua and Peter McCallister from Lethal Weapon. The Misfit Hero’s Bracket had #11 seed duo of Garfield and Odie defeat #6 John McClane from the original Die Hard and the #10 seed Cindy Lou Who defeated  #7 Gizmo from the Gremlins. This was a sign of things to come as upsets occurred regularly throughout the tournament.

Second Round

The second round went chalk in the Santa’s Family and Family Hero’s Bracket with #1 Clark Griswold, #2 Buddy the Elf, #3 Scott Calvin and #4 Fred Claus advancing. The Rich Big Company Villain’s Bracket was all upsets with #8 Cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation defeating #1 Frank Cross from Scrooged. The #5 seed Frank Shirley of Christmas Vacation beat #4 Randolph and Mortimer of Trading Places. Two villain’s from the first round continued their Cinderella or evil step sister dance #14 Scrooge McDuck and #10 Myron Larabee defeated #6 Walter Hobbs from Elf and #2 Scott Calvin. The Kids and Killers Bracket only upset was #12 Scott Farkus defeat of the #4 seed Jack Frost. The Misfit Hero’s Bracket had #5 seed Charlie Brown and #10 seed Cindy Lou Who move on to the Sweet 16.

Sweet 16

The Sweet 16 had only 4 of the top 4 seeds in each bracket move forward. The Santa’s Family and Family Hero’s Bracket went chalk with #1 Clark Griswold and #2 Buddy the Elf advancing. The Rich Big Company Villain Bracket had #8 Cousin Eddie defeat his nemesis #5 Frank Shirley again and the #14 seed Scrooge McDuck knocked off Sinbad, #10 seed Myron Larabee. The Kids and Killers Bracket had the #1 seed Grinch (Jim Carey) and #2 seed Harry and Marv the “Wet Bandits” losing to #12 seed Scott Farkus and #3 seed the Abominable Snow Monster. The Misfit Hero Bracket had the biggest upset as #5 seed Charlie Brown defeated Christmas Favorite, #1 seed Ralphie. The upset waltz of #10 seed Cindy Lou Who ended as #3 Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer had enough voted to advance.

Elite 8

The Elite 8 made Bracket Brother Dan cry as #1 seed Clark Griswold lost to #2 Buddy the Elf. The #14 seed Scrooge McDuck defeated #8 seed Cousin Eddie ending the possible final showdown between Clark and Eddie many were anticipating. The #12 seed, a late addition to the field defeated #3 the Abominable Snow Monster and #5 Charlie Brown defeated #3 Rudolph ending the possible Rudolph versus Snow Monster Final.

Final Four

The Final Four consisted of #2 seed Buddy the Elf and #5 seed Charlie Brown as our Hero finalist and #14 Scrooge McDuck and #12 Scott Farkus as the Villain finalist. Our hopes and dreams of a Clark vs. Frank Cross, Rudolph vs. the Bumble, Eddie vs. Clark or Myron Larabee vs. Howard Langston were denied and we were left with this eclectic group to battle for Christmas Championship. The #5 seed Charlie Brown sent Buddy the Elf back to the North Pole empty handed and #12 seed Scott Farkus ended #14 Scrooge McDuck’s run for the Championship.

Championship

Everyone’s lovable loser #5 Charlie Brown beat up #12 Scott Farkus just like Ralphie did in the school yard and became the Christmas Bracket Madness Champion for 2015. The Peanuts and all their fans were dancing this holiday season.
