Jeffrey “Coach” Belanger coming off an 8-3 week gives his MLB picks for June 13th through 16th. The challenge this week is to achieve the Shawn Dunston (70% correct) while picking 30 MLB games. The US open begins this week at Oakmont and Coach gives his three top choices to win Golf’s 2nd major of the season. The NBA Finals has gone just as Coach predicted and he could pull off the 5-0 perfecto with a Warriors win in game 5. MLB Picks and NBA Picks
Monday June 13th
Warriors over Cavaliers The blueprint I gave on how to bet this entire series is one game away from perfection.
Nationals over Cubs Max Scherzer gave up 7 runs last time out against the Cubbies. Kyle Hendricks needs to pitch better away from Wrigley. Cubs have lost 4 of his 5 away starts. The lone victory was way back on April 9th vs. the D-Backs. Last 3 years ERA away from Wrigley is 4.02 and 2.93 at the friendly confines.
Blue Jays over Phillies RA Dickey has won his last 2 starts and looks to make it 3 in a row. June has been one of Dickey’s best months in his career and he does have a 5-4 record with an era just above 3 in 12 starts vs. the Phillies. Jarad Eickhoff has similar issues as Kyle Hendricks of the Cubs. The Phillies have lost all 5 of his away starts. Small sample size but his work in Philly has been outstanding but on the road has been average.
D-Backs over Dodgers Mike Bolsinger not been very good with only 1 win in 4 starts this season. Zach Greinke vs. old mates. After a rough start Greinke has turned it around winning his past 5 starts and has yet to give up a run in June.
Tuesday June 14th
Red Sox over Orioles David Price was hit hard by Baltimore back in April looks for redemption.  Chris Tillman has been the O’s best pitcher going 11-2 in his starts. He has somehow avoided facing Boston so far this year. He has gone 8-2 in 13 starts the last 3 years vs. the Bosox. This is a different Boston team than the past 3 years especially offensively.
Rangers over A’s Martin Perez has been average against the A’s the past 3 years and lost to them earlier in 2016 8-1. Perez has been pitching much better recently and the Rangers as a team have been much better recently. The A’s have been disappointing and Eric Surkamp has not shown much in 6 career MLB starts.
Braves over Reds Julio Teheran has been great at home and in 4 starts vs. Cincy he is 2-1 a sub 2 era and a baa of .191 Brandon Finnegan what can you say..at least the Reds have won one of the games he pitched this month after 0-6 in May.
Indians over Royals Josh Tomlin Indians have only lost one of his starts. Beat KC twice this season 5-4 avg performance 5/8 and 6/4 a 7-1 win.  Chris Young aka Danny Tanner returned from the DL recently. He has not pitched to well this season but has pitched his best at home. Even with all his recent rest and pitching at home it won’t be enough to beat the Indians.
Padres over Marlins Drew Pomeranz one poor game all season yet the Padres can’t seem to win his starts 5-7 . Stats at home are not much different from his road splits except he seems to find a way to lose on the road. 7-4 at home and 3-10 on road. Tom Koehler slightly worse on the road but just like Pomeranz the Marlins have trouble winning while he pitches. He has beaten the Padres twice in the past 3 years giving up only 3 runs in 15 innings.
Giants over Brewers Madison Bumgarner vs. Matt Garza. It’s Bumgarner the Giants versus an inferior team.
Wednesday June 15th
Dodgers over D-Backs Run line It’s Clayton Kershaw and they have Patrick Corbin and take the run line because the Dodgers when they win it’s by 2 or more runs 80% of the time.
Giants over Brewers Jonny Cueto one of the best in baseball. He owns the Brewers 6-0 the past 3 years 8 runs in 45 innings and .153 baa. Jimmy Nelson the ace of the Brewers takes the hill but it’s a big task to beat the Giants and Cueto. The Brewers to their credit have done a good job vs. poor teams but Giants are an elite National League team.
Redsox over Orioles Steven Wright a top pitcher in baseball. Tyler Wilson after a solid April has been very hittable in May and even more hittable in June. This is not good when you are facing the best hitting team in baseball.
White Sox over Tigers Chris Sale after a bit of a bumpy stretch is now back on track time to start riding the southpaw again. Mike Pelfrey goes for the Tigers and he beat the Whites Sox and Sale on June 4th. Lightning will not strike twice for the Tigers and Pelfrey.
A’s over Rangers Sonny Gray looked good coming off the DL which is a good sign for the A’s. Derek Holland has been good at times for the Rangers but those times usually occur at home. This game is in Oakland bad news for Derek Holland.
Cardinals over Astros Adam Wainwright is not the same pitcher as a few years ago but he has been able to get his team to win as of late. Colin McHugh has been part of the disappointing Astros pitching staff and teams are batting .302 off him this year.
Thursday June 16th
Rays over Mariners (stay away Mike Andriese has been replaced with rookie Blake Snell) Mike Andriese has been great for the Rays this year. Hisashii Iwakuma pitched well in Texas recently but has not been as good in 2016 as he has in previous seasons, it has gone unnoticed due to the Mariners scoring a bunch of runs to back him in many starts.
Rangers over A’s Colby Lewis has been great and consistent all year for the Rangers. He has been particularly well on the road 1.41 era and a .184 baa. He was supposed to face Rich Hill which would have been a great match up but the A’s put Hill on the DL to rest his sore groin so they will get Daniel Mengden instead. Take Colby Lewis in this one.
Pirates over Mets (stay away Gerrit Cole has been scratched) Gerrit Cole has good era but has been a bit fortunate with runners on base this season. Luckily he faces the Mets who can be an enigma on offense. Bartolo Colon has been better on the road than home this year and has decent numbers in the past against the Pirates but the Pirates are the better team and will win this one..
Nationals over Padres Tanner Roark has had one bad start per month. He already had his hiccup for June. Erik Johnson has given up 4 to 5 runs in his 3 starts this season. He will need to be much better that that to beat the Nationals.  I don’t think he is capable of that level of play.
