The NFL season is 16 weeks long. The MLB season is 162 games long. What would happen if you looked at the MLB standings in 10 games increments as if it was a 16 game NFL season? We will post standings reflecting each team in 10 game increments. A team with a 5-5 record counts as a loss because if a team goes .500 during the season in the MLB they will not make the wild card.
I took the liberty of making the weekly score for each MLB team as if it was an NFL team based on the results of their previous 10 games. (10-0 week would equal an NFL blowout 55-0, 5-5 week would be a close loss 13-14)
The week 7 highlights in the if the MLB was NFL standings.
AL East – only the Blue Jays enjoyed a win this week going 8-2 for a 31-7 blow out.
AL Central – The White Sox lost for the 4th consecutive week to drop to 3-4. The Royals had the big week with a 35-7 victory thanks to their 8-2 record in their last 10.
AL West – The Rangers win big 39-10 thanks to their 8-2 record in their last 10.
NL East – The Braves won a bunch of games in a row and snag their first victory of the if the MLB was the NFL season. This leaves just the Angels and Twins as teams without an above .500 record in a 10 game stretch.
NL Central – Rough week for the Central all the teams lost this week. The Cubs were the last undefeated team in the league but a 3 game losing streak in games 68,69, and 70 allowed the 72 Dolphins to celebrate.
NL West – The Giants improve to 5-2 with a 42-3 blowout thanks to their 9-1 record in the last 10. The are making a move to surpass the Cubs as the best team in baseball.
