MLB Picks
Friday August 19th
@Pirates over Marlins The Pirates are still in the sild card hunt and need Gerrit Cole to get going. The Pirates are 2-7 in his last 9 starts. The Cole Train has had success against the Fish in the previous 3 years going 2-1 in 4 starts with a 3.42 era while holding Miami to a .232 batting average. The Marlins did beat Cole early this year 3-1. The Marlins have won 4 of the last 5 Tom Koehler starts. The only loss was to the Cubs while they were streaking and he only gave up 1 run on 5 hits in that game. He is however 0-4 in 4 starts against the Pirates in his career. In 22 innings he has given up 14 runs and 25 hits. Take the Bucs in this pivotal game for teams chasing a wild card spot.
Nationals over @Braves The Nationals Tanner Roark has been magnificent against the Braves in his career.  Julio Tehran has done well against the Pirates the previous 3 years but is coming off the DL. He might be shaking off some rust and liable to not be his usual shut down self. Take the Nats in this one.
Yankees over @Angels Masahiro Tanaka has had one career start against the Angels ans that was this year when he gave up 2 runs in a no decesion. He opposes Jered Weaver who has the dog days of August knawing on his old arm. Three August starts have resulted in 27 hits and 14 runs. The Yankees have tuned him up already this year (ERA of over 7 the past 4 years against the Yanks) and the baby bombers will knock him around the park again.
Saturday August 20th
Blue Jays over @Indians The Blue Jays are surging as they hit the home stretch. Aaron Sanchez is still in the starting line up and you should ride him until they make him go to the bullpen. The Indians send Josh Tomlin has lost his last 3 starts allowing 17 runs in those 3 games. He pitched well against the Jays on July 1st but he is trending in the wrong direction and even if he throws well the Cleveland Pen will give it up.
Royals over @Twins The Royals have had a nice stretch lateley and if Cleveland pulls a choke job like the Sox and Braves in 2011 could catch Cleveland. Ian Kennedy has given up 1 or less runs in his past 4 starts.  Hector Santiago has struggled since joining the Twins giving up 16 runs in 3 starts. He was shelled in his last outing against the Royals giving up 7 runs.  Take the Royals.
Sunday August 21st
Twins/@Royals under runs The Twins Ervin Santana and Royals Danny Duffy have been fantastic over the past couple months. These two will keep the run total down and give their teams a chance to win. Santana prior to this year had done well against KC the last 3 years. He did get hit pretty hard this year but that was early in the season while he was struggling.  Duffy in over 50 innings against the Twins has an era slightly above 2. Take the under in runs in this one.
