MLB Picks
Friday July 8th
Dodgers over Padres Scott Kazmir is 1-0 vs. Padres this year. He did give up 5 in a no decision on May 20th. He had a 6 inning 1 hit shut out ion April. Andrew Cashner in 5 road starts 0-3 with a 5.31 ERA. He is much better at home 3.96 ERA. Throw in he is 1-5 the last 3 years vs. Dodgers including a loss in April when he gave up 5 runs.
Rangers over Twins Cole Hamels versus  Kyle Gibson again. I am stubborn and I am not quite sure how the Rangers lost this match up past week.
Saturday July 9th
Red Sox over Rays I have to take a Red Sox game and this is the best of the weekend. Rick Porcello wins games at home, I am not going to say he is good at home but he has at least has had god fortune in Fenway.  Matt Moore pitched great versus the Sox last week despite struggling versus them in the past. I just hope the Sox bats support Porcello at home like they have all year. Porcello actually has some very strange splits, he is 7-0 at home even though teams bat .272 against him at Fenway compared to .242 at home. He does have less walks at home 7 to 44 so maybe that is the difference or it could be the 9 homers on the road compared to 4 at home. Porcello and the Sox just strange that is for certain.
Cardinals over Brewers Carlos Martinez pick him until I get the effing game right. Chase Anderson might help my cause but the way things go for Carlos Martinez I am sure Chase Anderson will throw the game of his life.
Indians over Yankees Danny Salazar  been fantastic for the Indians. CC Sabathia had a rough April but then pitched pretty effectively over a 7 game stretch. His last 3 starts however he has given up 5, 6 and 5 runs. He will need to be much better than that over my favorite AL pitcher.
Astros over A’s Lance McCullers is my Astros pick of pre-all star week. Young pitcher that gives up to many hits and allows to many walks. This is generally a bad thing when picking games but he faces Kendall Graveman. I am being a bit tough on Graveman and it could be because he sucked for my fantasy baseball team, the A’s have actually won his past 5 starts. The last time the A’s lost one of his starts was against the Astros.
Marlins over Reds Adam Conley has 6 of his last 8 starts have been quality starts. That is all he might need against the Reds awful pitching staff. John Lamb is hit or hit. There are not to many teams that don’t hit this guy. If Lamb happens to actually pitch well you still have a chance to win with the horrendous Reds bullpen.
Nationals/Mets over runs (Harvey Out and Cespedes out – Verrett will start, play the over at 7.5 runs. Any higher stay away) Max Scherzer and Matt Harvey pitch in this one and the run line might be 7 or 7.5. Max Scherzer with the home runs allowed and Matt Harvey being inconsistent  this could go over. This is the best I could do with a Mets pick. Logan Verrett takes the place of Matt Harvey. I still like the over at 7.5 runs.
Sunday July 10th
Orioles over Angels Chris Tillman has been an ace for the Orioles. They generally win his starts. Tim Lincecum pitched as I expected his last time out and got shelled. Unfortunately the Rays and Jake Odorizzi pitched much worse and I lost that pick. Tillman won’t lose and if he does good that means the Red Sox don’t lose ground to the O’s.
Braves over White Sox I needed to pick a Braves game and a White Sox game and this is the best I could find. Mike Foltynewicz the hard throwing youngster for the Braves will hopefully pitched like he did against the Giants a back in May. James Shields will hopefully pitch like he did when he first joined the Pale Hose. He actually threw well against Minnesota and the Yankees in his last two starts. Lucky him he gets another weak hitting team in this one. Don’t buy Shields stock.
Brewers over Cardinals Junior Guerra the 31 year old rookie tries to keep his magical season going. The former catcher does a fantastic job of mixing his pitches. Mike Leake goes for the Cardinals and they have lost his last 4 starts. The last time he held an opponent under 3 runs was the Brewers. Ugh.
Giants over D-Backs Madison Bumgarner ditto for Carlos Martinez just going to pick him until he wins again. Archie Bradley gave up 5 runs in a 9-7 D-Backs win versus the Giants earlier this year. It’s Bumgarner c’mon you can’t lose a third in a row.
